Ecosystems are all about interdependence, so when a non-native alien species enters the picture, things can go terribly wrong. When Zebra Mussels and Gobi Fish get into the Great Lakes ecosystem, they upset the balance of life. They also affect people's health, because these alien invaders carry toxins that get concentrated as they move up the food chain. There's no easy solution, but until scientists deal with the invaders, locals have to be careful about the fish that they eat.
